If you forget your device’s login password, you will not be able to use it…
If you forget your device’s administrator password — or if somebody changes the password and does not tell you what it is — you will be unable to add or remove applications from it (amongst many other important administrator tasks associated with keeping a device safe and healthy).
Real World Example
“Rita” gave her computer to a nogoodnik who installed some really scary software onto it…
This software resulted in the computer becoming nearly unusable…
Rita brought her computer to Tech Wizard Mike (who had. been recommended to her).
Tech Wizard Mike could not remove the software because the nogoodnik changed the computer’s administrator password.
In what turned out to be a very positive collaboration, Tech Wizard Mike & Rita contacted technical support for Rita’s computer.
Tech Wizard Mike & Rita carefully followed the Tech Support Person’s instructions to unlock Rita’s computer.
Rita decided to err on the side of caution and asked Tech Wizard Mike to help her reset her computer to its factory settings (just in case the nogoodnik installed other malicious software onto her computer).
Alls well that ends well. Rita was able to be productive again!
